Club Leader Report – June 2013

I have now fully settled in to my role as Leader of Brockenhurst Gateway Club. Thank you to everyone who has helped me. The singing/drama project has been completed and was very successful after a few hiccups. Great fun was had by all and money was raised for our club on the night by the raffle. Many thanks to Cynthia Wilson and Sue Joiner for their hard work and patience and many thanks and congratulations on a brilliant performance to our members and volunteers.

We have been raising money for Brockenhurst Gateway. The Crown, Bransgore has continued to support us and in April they allowed us to hold a bottle tombola in the pub which raised £120.00.  They are holding a Charity quiz on Monday June 3rd and a big fun day on Saturday August 31st with all proceeds coming to our club.  A big thank you needs to go to New Milton Rotary club who have donated a TV/DVD and karaoke machine.  Amy Galpin and family via Waitrose in Lymington acquired £700.00 for our club.  Also thanks go to Debbie Traylor who has brought games and puzzles for our club.  All at Gateway really appreciate all the support.

Since my last report we have enjoyed many activities including our annual trip to Paulton’s Park. It was an excellent day with lots of laughter.  We had a lovely carvery at the Walhampton Arms in Lymington which is proving to be a popular event.  We returned to the fire station with the engine outside in the warm sunshine. Thankfully no emergencies this time. Many thanks to Kevin who was brilliant posing for all the photographs. We have introduced clock making and photography which has been successful.

Future events happening in before we break up for the summer holidays are Tudor activities in the forest with fish and chips, beach walk at Mudeford.  We hope the weather will be better than last year for our beach walk. Sailing at Keyhaven, sponsored walk along Hengisbury head, vehicle evening, and strawberry picking and bbq at the Cat and Fiddle PYO. We are also looking forward to Brockenhurst carnival on August Bank holiday Monday. This year our theme will be travels. A lot of our members have been on holiday and have come back and did fascinating talks so we thought the theme for the carnival will be Around the World. I will of course put photos on our website before September term.

Many thanks to all our supporters.

    Pauline French (Leader)
