I was born in Reading and moved to Brockenhurst, New Forest in 1986. I am married to Mark French who is an assistant leader and we have three grown up children between us. I first started working with special needs at Brockenhurst College in 1990. I later became a support worker to a young man with infantile hypercalcaemia. I used to take him along to New Forest Gateway where I eventually became a volunteer, then deputy leader.
In 1994 I started working for Southlands school where I acquired comprehensive training on Asperger Syndrome. I eventually left and went to work as a Food Technology teacher at Coxlease School which is a school for pupils with behaviour, emotional and social difficulties. Some of our pupils also have Autistic Spectrum Disorders and other have learning difficulties. I have been at Priory Coxlease for 23 years. I have moved from the Coxlease main site and now work with young adults age 16 +. I am now head of Catering and Hospitality as well as English and PHSE.
In 2011 I became leader of Brockenhurst Gateway. I find the job interesting and very rewarding. After a while I wanted to provide a more variety of activities which could prove to be expensive, therefore Mark and I decided to do a lot of fundraising which has been successful and has enabled us to provide more engaging activities.
